A NEW CHILDREN’S BOOK THAT DEPICTS THE BEAUTY OF BONDING THAT TAKES PLACE BETWEEN A MOTHER AND DAUGHTER DURING HAIR-DOING PROCESS FROM WASHDAY TO STYLING.

Glenn Dale, MD, November 2019 – Michaela Turay announces the publication of her first children’s book, My Hair Is My Crown with her four-year-old daughter. Reminiscent of her childhood, Michaela shares with the daughter lessons she wished she had learned about loving and embracing her hair. Children and their mothers alike can relate to the book as they go through a typical washday to styling. Written in a fun and interactive way, the story is accompanied by vibrant illustrations by Raven Best.

My Hair Is My Crown is an ode to wash days and barrettes, to deep conditions and plaits, to the bond between a mother and daughter embracing their natural hair. To be a young child and understand the value and beauty of hair is something Michaela wished she had grown up knowing. She is proud of sharing this experience with her daughter and celebrating her as they both go through the natural hair journey. The book celebrates individuality and acceptance of oneself and others as Quinie talks about her friends and their different hairstyles, something parents need to celebrate more.

Michaela and Quinie will be debuting My Hair Is My Crown during Black History Month, February 2020. This Book Launch is open and free to the community; it is a family event welcoming adults and children of all ages.
