Blessings on Blessings on Blessings
Have you been working to secure the supreme bag? Have you been praying for God to do something new in your life? What happens when your faith collides with your work?
Over the last several weeks, I have had numerous conversations with my family members about the call that God has placed on their lives. It has confirmed for me that God is doing great things in the world and I am so thankful that my cousins are feeling what I feel. The one resounding theme in our conversations is:
Faith x Work = Overflow
Ok, so, clearly we didn’t have this formula while speaking on the phone but once I realized that the conversation I had with Moses on Monday was similar to the conversation I had with TJ on Wednesday and the one I had with Sierra resonated with the text I got from Michelle… I understood that it’s really time to remove the fear, doubt, small planning, tame visions and colorless dreams from our lives and our vocabularies and dive wholeheartedly into the people that God is calling us to be.
We have all heard the familiar scripture, “Faith without works is dead.” But have we really thought about this beyond the surface? The Bible gives us this clear instruction but we often neglect this reality: in order to manifest the purposes that God has placed on the inside of us, we will have to do work – in the physical and spiritual worlds. We have grace over our lives. We have authority. We have the ability to cast visions. We have power.
The thing is, we know all of this, but I am fearful that the children of God are watching “other people” win without tapping into the power that is inside of us. Before we can properly handle the purpose that God has placed on the inside of us, we have to do spiritual work. This may sound lofty or ideal but think about it, how can you know God’s epic idea for your birth if you have not asked Him? Spent time with Him? Read His word? Tapped into His power? When I think of the fact that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in me…I am in awe. The same Holy Spirit that causes demons to flee, strongholds to be broken, lives and minds to be transformed is actually on the inside of me – how can I just lay down on that? I cannot.
When we believe in something, we think differently. Speak differently. Act differently. Work differently. What do you believe in? Do you believe in your purpose, vision, destiny, or your calling? If so, you have to start moving and operating in that belief. Sarah Jakes-Roberts has a sermon entitled, “The Unnecessary Miracle” in which she explains that she wants to be so focused on her purpose and going full throttle for God so that on a practical level, she should be in the rooms she is in. God will then grant her more than she could even imagine because she had the courage to dig deep and try anyway in the midst of fear, lack, or uncertainty.
I want to encourage you to step out in faith and do what God is calling you to do. Start small. As you move, God will give you the instructions one by one. He will orchestrate the events in your life in such a way that even when it seems that you do not have the resources, talent, or connections to manifest in the physical world what He has placed on the inside of you, if you continue to press forward and are willing to be emptied and uncomfortable, He will refill you.
At my church, as a Congregation, we read a passage entitled, “My Commitment as A Christian”, one of the last lines reads, “work until He stops me.” How can we show the world all that God has for us to do without doing any work? It’s a simple answer, we cannot. Yesterday, I jokingly told a friend, “I am not a Holy roller, I just believe God. Period.” Joel Osteen has a saying, “This is my Bible. I am who it says I am. I can have what it says I can have.” I believe that.
Exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can ask or imagine. That is the promise. We have to start imagining greater for our lives and I believe God will grant the increase. Let’s work on our goals, dreams, and passions like we believe in the promises attached to our names. I’m here for the blessings on blessings on blessings, let’s work the formula:
Faith x Work = Overflow.
Dear God, thank You for today. Thank You for the visions that You have given to us. Help us to trust in the plans and promises that You have and allow our work to prove that we trust You and believe that You are able to do anything but fail. We thank You that as we press into You, You will reveal the call You have on our lives. Thank You in advance for the great works that Your people will do. You said in Your word, whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. We bind small planning, smooth knees, and tame visions and we loose fervent prayer lives, unimaginable plans and greatness for Your kingdom and Your will to be done on earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
